I have visited the site of Wayne's memorial a few times, most recently with my wife, and sadly, I
must conclude that the recovery of your son's remains is not possible. The historic mining shafts
are too dangerous for entry.
As much as we wish we could fulfill your desire to have your son's remains exhumed, there is
just no feasible way to reach the bottom of the mine shaft to begin the search for what remains
may exist. Please be assured that the historic workings at depth will not be impacted by the
current mining plans or the leach pad plans, and that your son's remains will be left untouched.
As Jane Mannon communicated with your sons, Don and Brian, CC &V has submitted its permit
application for the mine extension and we anticipate regulatory hearings in August and
September. Given our current operation schedule, a decision regarding Wayne's memorial
plaque must be made by October 2012.
Just as Ms. Mannon and I communicated to you and your family when we met in April 2011, and
as further confirmed in Mr. Largent's letter to you, we are committed to helping create a new
memorial site for Wayne relatively near the current site, so please let us know how you wish to
proceed from here.
Please contact me if you have any questions or comments.
Sincerely,
Raymond DuBois
Vice President and General Manager
