September 2009 Foidel Creek Mine * Refuse Disposal Area Expansion — Surface Water Control Plan * Page 2
• o reclaimed area — previously reclaimed condition, good herbaceous cover; CN value
= 74
3.0 Channel Designs
•
0
Two types of channels will be used to control surface runoff at the refuse disposal area: temporary
ditches and postmine channels. A temporary ditch is characterized as a diversion structure necessary
to route surface runoff during the initial sequence of the pile's construction. The temporary ditches
will be abandoned as the refuse disposal area expands to full build -out. A postmine channel is
characterized as a diversion structure that is expected to remain as a permanent, postmine feature.
Table 1, Refuse Disposal Area Channel Sequencing, identifies the refuse disposal area diversion
structure and if the diversion structure is a temporary ditch or postmine channel. In addition, the
table notes if the diversion structure is needed at the time of initial refuse pile construction or as the
pile expands towards final build -out and closure.
TABLE 1
REFUSE DISPOSAL AREA CHANNEL SE UENCING
Channel
Construction Timing
Type
RDA -lb
existing
postmine channel
RDA -lc
existing
postmine channel
RDA -ld
existing
ostmine channel
RDA -le
existing
postmine channel
RDA-If
closure
postmine channel
RDA -3
existing
postmine channel
RDA-4
initial sequence
temporary ditch
RDA4a
initial sequence
temporary ditch
RDA -5
initial sequence/closure
postmine channel
RDA -5a
initial sequence/closure
postmine channel
RDA-5b'
closure
Postmine channel
RDA -5c
closure
postmine channel
RDA -6
initial sequence/closure
pos tnrine channel
RDA -7
initial sequence/closure
posbnine channel
RDA -10
initial sequence
temporary ditch
RDA -11
initial sequence
temporary ditch
BD -1
initial sequence bench/closure
postmine channel
BD -2
initial sequence bench/closure
postmine channel
BD -3
closure bench
postmine channel
BD4
closure bench
postmine channel
BD -5
closure bench
postmine channel
BD -6
top of pile, closure
postmine channel
Notes: `BD" — bench ditches; bench ditches will be constructed at 50 feet vertical intervals as necess
Hydro - Environmental Solutions, Inc.
57 10 th Street, Suite B
P.O.
