The first permit renewal was granted in May of 1988 and the second was granted June 3, 1993. During the period
of 1993 through November 1999, the Division has approved permit revisions 2 (see Mining District), 3, and 4
(Eastern Mining District).
The mining activities envisioned by the first permit, issued in 1983, was strictly for room and pillar mining. The
approval by Twentymile Management for a longwall resulted in a change in mining method in 1989. Prior to that
time development work was commenced which saw the development of the North Mains and subsequent gateroad
development for the west side of the mine (panels 1 through 6). These panels were all mined up dip. The mining
of these panels was completed in 1994.
The next district, which TCC mined was known as the Southwest Mining District, and longwall coal was produced
form this district from 1994 into 1996. Panels ls` SW to 3`d SW were mined from this district.
In 1996, TCC began longwalling coal from the Eastern Mining District. The name reflects the fact that this district
is located to the east of the North Mains. The Eastern Mining District is comprised of longwall panels 9 Right
through 2 Right. It is anticipated that mining of the 2 Right panel will be completed in 2000. Upon completion of
mining in the Eastern Mining District, TCC plans to move into the Northern Mining District. The Northern Mining
District is the subject of permit revision 5, which is pending regulatory approval.
A survey of the area overlying the planned mining has identified the following structures, resource features, and
facilities that could be affected by potential subsidence.
A,F ,; '2D- APR 2 4 20010
Permit Renewal No. 3 2.05 -172.1 l 1/l/99
