GV4rity of
reeley
September 27, 2013
/ Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Attn: Mr. Peter Hays
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
wcelve©
SEP 30 201.4
division of
Mining oSa fe a6on
ty
J
Subject: Reams ono DRMS Inspection Report Dated August 1, 2013
25th Avenue Site, M- 2002 -020
Dear Mr. Hays:
Following up on my August 13, 2013 response letter to the DRMS, this letter provides the
Division information regarding Greeley's plans for implementation of a long -term solution to
any potential impacts to Bill and Dorothy Rodman's water wells from mining at the 25th Avenue
Site. Greeley plans to provide an alternative potable source of water to support the historic well
water use during mine dewatering.
As stated in the August 13, 2013 letter, even though Greeley believes that the actual causes of
any water level fluctuations in the Rodman wells are not proven, it nevertheless has already
taken multiple steps to mitigate its potential impacts. Greeley has monitored water levels on site
and taken steps necessary to assure that both existing wells at the site are fully functional
including payment for replacing pumps for both wells and installation of a pressure tank.
Greeley has also paid for the installation and connection of a non - potable water storage tank on
site to be used for irrigation and paid for trucked water to supplement irrigation water when
necessary. Greeley also reimbursed the Rodmans for hay that they purchased for their horses this
summer.
In continuing to implement the approved mitigation plan, Greeley has more recently also paid for
the construction of test holes on site to determine if drilling a deeper alluvial replacement well is
feasible. The test holes confirmed that the alluvial aquifer is very shallow over the whole
property and thus a new well location and/or deeper well will not provide an additional alluvial
water supply for the property at this time.
On September 25, 2013, Bill Schenderlein, Greeley's consultant on the project, and I met again
with Bill and Dorothy Rodman and part of their family. This meeting was originally scheduled
for September 16, but had to be rescheduled due to the recent flooding. At this meeting
everyone agreed that the steps taken to date had provided a short term solution to the problem.
However, the Rodmans expressed concern about whether this solution was viable longer term.
We also discussed other factors that may be impacting water levels on the property including
Water and Sewer Department . 1100 10th Street, Suite 300, Greeley, CO 80631 . (970) 350 -9811 Fax (970) 350 -9805
We promise to preserve and improve the quality of life for Greeley through timely, courteous and cost - effective service.
