Spring 2013 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
South of Divide and Dry Fork Minino Areas (E -Seam)
Figure 8. Southward view during spring 2013 site visit of subsidence crack on the left -hand side of the
road leading toward the MDW E44 pad. This site is approximately 100 feet north of the turnoff from
the access road leading to the MDW E3 -64/65 pad.
4.6.3 Location 6
Location 6 is along the eastern edge of the MDW E44 pad. Numerous irregular, semi - continuous
subsidence cracks were observed along the crest of the uncompacted containment berm and as
sub - parallel cracks on the eastern edge of the compacted portion of the pad (Figure 9). The most
significant of the cracks dimensionally are those located along the berm crest with maximum
lengths of 25 feet, widths of 1 inch and depths of 5 inches. It is likely that all of the observed
cracks have been exacerbated by the differential settlement of the fill material along this side of
the pad. The E -seam overburden depth at this location is approximately 1,050 feet.
A small seep is located along the cut slope side of the road as it enters onto the MDW E4 -4 pad.
Moisture from the seep along this cut slope appears to have been the cause of the small slope
failure at this location and the muddy area along the road which is rutted from vehicle traffic
(Figure 10).
831 - 032.795 Wright Water Engineers, Inc.
