Any additional material that remains after regrading will be spread over the lower beach area. The lower
bench area will be re- topsoiled with plant - growth media stockpiled from the ado. 51. portal area. prior to
redistribution of the plant - growth media, the lower bench will be ripped to a depth of 18 to 24 inches.
After redistribution of the plant - growth media, the material will be sampled and analyzed to determine if
soil amendments are necessary, and amendments will be added, as appropriate. The area will then be drill
seeded with the rangeland /wildlife seed mixture.
The magazine site, located adjacent to the Red -Rock Crusher, will be reclaimed when it is no longer
needed to support mining and related operations. The site will be reclaimed by removing the fence,
magazines, and cement pads, which will be salvaged or scrapped. The stockpiled topsoil will be
redistributed over the site. After redistribution, the soil will be sampled and analyzed to determine if soil
amendments are necessary, and amendments added, as appropriate. The area will then be drill seeded
with the rangeland /wildlife seed mixture.
Old Shop Area (Empire Village)
The old shop is located at the now abandoned Empire Village. The old shop and associated storage -yards
were constructed prior to promulgation of current mining laws and regulations. As such, no topsoil was
recovered or stored for redistribution over the site. In order to address the topsoil deficiency for this area,
the overburden will be sampled and analyzed to determine if soil amendments are necessary. The results
of the analysis will dictate what, if any, amendments should be added so that this material is suitable as a
plant - growth medium.
The shop building will be torn -down and either removed from the site, or placed in the solid orate disposal
area. Any mining materials stored in the building or storage -yards will also be removed from the site.
The area will then be graded to blend with adjacent areas. Once grading is completed, the best available
plant - growth material, as determined above, will be redistributed over the regarded surface. The site will
then be drill seeded with the rangeland /wildlife seed mixture. In the event the seed mixture is broadcast,
the seeding rate will be doubled. The area will then be straw mulched at the rate of two tons /acre.
Once bond is released for the area, the associated sediment ponds will be graded to blend with the natural
topography. Topsoil salvaged during construction of the ponds will be used during reclamation. The
ponds will then be drill seeded and mulched as previously described.
Utah Tract
The Utah Tract is an area of reclaimed surface -mined spoils overlying BTU EC's underground mining
operation. The area was regraded, topsoiled, seeded, and mulched between 1979 and 1983. The
postmining topography of the area is shown on the Vegetation Map (Map 20), and Structures and
Renewable Resources Map (Map 25). BTU EC is responsible for the revegetation success of this area. In
the event any portions of the area require re- seeding, they will be drill seeded with the rangeland /wildlife
seed mixture. If broadcast seeding is necessary, the seeding rate will be double. Any area requiring
reseeding will be mulched at the rate of two (2) tons /acre. The mulch will be crimped into the reseeded
growth media.
TR07- z
