Figure 8
Estimated Irrigated Acreage in the Rio Grande Basin
sooooo
700000
600000
500000
a
v 400000
a
300000
200000
100000
The 1998 irrigated land assessment identified crop types for irrigated acreage on the San
Luis Valley floor. The 108 structures without mapped service areas, as discussed above,
are generally high in the basin and outside the valley floor where pasture is the prevalent
crop type. Therefore, irrigated meadow was assigned as the crop type for those
structures.
The crop distribution file used in the historic consumptive use analysis was created using
wellproc.bas, apre-processor program described in Appendix A. It is anticipated that
the StateDMI will be used to extract the acreage and crop type information from
HydroBase, perform the historic estimation calculation described in the Appendix A
memorandum, and develop the crop distribution file for future model updates.
4.5 Annual Irrigation Parameter File (rg2004.ipy)
The annual irrigation parameter file contains yearly (time series) structure information
required to run consumptive use simulations, including the following:
• conveyance efficiencies
• maximum flood irrigation efficiencies
• maximum sprinkler irrigation efficiencies
• acreage with ground water supply
• acreage irrigated by sprinkler application
• maximum permitted or decreed monthly pumping capacity
• ground water use mode (ground water primary or secondary source)
cureport_6-2004.doc 24 of 48 June, 2004
1950 1955 1960 1965 1970 1975 1980 1985 1990 1995 2000
