The U. S.
Environmental Protection Agency estimates from the Manual of Individual and Non-
public Water Supply Systems (1991) in gallons per day per head were adopted and are
shown in Table 3.
Table 3
Avera e Dail Consum tive Use b Livestock

Livestock T e Daily Water Use
al/head
Cattle 12
Sheep 2
Ho s 4
Source: USEPA "Manual of Individual and
Non-Public Water Supply Systems" (1991)
2. Prepare Data for StateCU
Population estimates are required for each year in the Consumptive Uses and Losses
Summary period of interest. Therefore, linear interpolation was used to estimate the
county livestock populations for years between the five-year state estimates.
Information is not readily available that indicates the specific location of livestock areas
within a county. Therefore, the amount of livestock within the basin was determined
based on the land area of each county located within the basin using a spreadsheet. The
results are shown in Table 4. Monthly cattle, sheep, and hog population estimates for
each basin by county, plus estimated daily water use per livestock type are required input
to StateCU when performing an other (non-agricultural) use analysis.
C:\Documents and Settings\ckf.DWR\My Documents\AppendA_culoss.doc Septeml2o'~ ~OQ9
