The following sections describe in detail the approach to obtaining and
preparing these data as input to StateCU. The subsequent section describes the
procedures for using the StateCU graphical user interface (GUI) to prepare a
Consumptive Uses and Losses Summary for a basin or sub-basin.
General Information
Much of the readily available information required to prepare the Consumptive Uses and
Losses Summary is determined on a county-wide basis including population statistics,
livestock counts, and mineral resource uses. Therefore, it is desirable to estimate the
other uses by county. Because county boundaries do not always follow basin boundaries,
it was necessary to estimate the percent of a county (based on land acreage) within the
planning model basin. These percents are only used when specific information regarding
the location of use within a county was not available. For instance, the locations of towns
within a county are known, therefore, the county-wide municipal population estimates
were not distributed between basins based on land percents. However, the locations of
livestock within a county are not know, therefore, livestock counts were distributed
between basins based on land percents.
The following use category locations were known and did not require estimates based on
the percent of a county within the basin:
• Reservoir and Stockpond Evaporation
• Municipal and Domestic (towns)
• Exports
• Fish and Wildlife
C:\Documents and Settings\ckf.DWR\My Documents\AppendA_culoss.doc Septem~ ~OQ9
