State Office <br />Soil Conservation Service <br />September 20, 1966 <br /> <br />RIVER BASIN SURVEYS <br /> <br />TYPE I COMPREHENSIVE RIVER BASIN SURVEYS <br /> <br />Colorado River Basin Field Party has cooperated with the Missouri River <br /> <br />Basin Field Committee in surveying Colorado's area within the Missouri Basin. <br /> <br />The area includes North Platte, Laramie, South Platte, Smoky Hill, Arikaree <br /> <br />and Republican rivers in Northeastern Colorado. Two men have worked about one <br /> <br />year inventorying 158 small watersheds in the Colorado portion of the Missouri <br /> <br /> <br />River Basin. This field work is complete unless the Field Advisory Committee <br /> <br />requests more information from the Colorado River Basin Party. The Survey is <br /> <br />scheduled to be completed July 1969. <br /> <br />Colorado "Crop Yield and Distribution" inventories on "Soil Resource Groups" <br /> <br />within "Land Resource Areas" were completed in 1966. This is part of the economic <br /> <br /> <br />base study of the Missouri River Basin studies, <br /> <br />Recen~ meetings of the Task Force on Irrigation Systems Efficiency indicate <br /> <br />supplementary data on the Agricultural Water Management portion of the survey <br /> <br /> <br />will be needed. At this time specific details of how much additional information <br /> <br />needed, or time involved, is not known. <br /> <br />TYPE IV RIVER BASIN SURVEYS <br /> <br />The State of Colorado through the Governor's office and the Colorado Water <br /> <br />Conservation Board negotiated with the Department of Agriculture for river basin <br /> <br />surveys on all rivers in Colorado. The State of Colorado had made a survey by <br />contract !,'Iith Cl ifford Jex, a private engineer, on the San Juan and Dolores <br /> <br />Rivers as a start in gathering river basin data for their use. The Department <br /> <br /> <br />of Agriculture was able to provide more technical material on the water and <br />
