.#,"" .

tJ.J"-"

.

.

- 2 -

related land resources than was available in the Water Conservation Board
Contract survey. Therefore, on June 27, 1961, a Work Plan for developing a
report of the Water and Related land Use was approved for the Gunnison River.
This report was cooperatively made by the agencies of the Department of Agriculture,
that is, Soil Conservation Service, Forest Service and Economic Research Service
and the Colorado Water Conservation Board. The Gunnison Report was completed
November 1962. The Water Conservation Board agreed on the Mainstem of the Colorado
Rive to be the next report completed. This report was completed as of May 1965.
Clifford Jex's reports are made concurrently with the U. S. Department of
Agriculture reports,
Work plans have been approved for the White River, the Yampa River and the
Dolores River. The White River Report is in draft stage and is expected to be
completed before January 1,1967. The Yampa River material is being assembled
and a first draft is expected sometime this winter. Initial work of gathering
data on the Dolores River is in progress, but the report is not expected before
1968.

Negotiations are in process for developing the Work Plan on the San Juan

River. Its drainage includes portions of New Mexico, Arizona and Utah as well

as Colorado. The Colorado Water Conservation Board, as well as the U. S.

Department of Agriculture wanted a report covering the complete San Juan River

Basin. These states were invited to participate in the San Juan study so the

report might be complete for the river from the Divide to its confluence with

the main Colorado River. A Work Plan is in the process of being reviewed by

these states and, we believe it will be approved shortly.
