EVANS <br />PROJECT MANAGER, FRYINGPAN -ARKANSAS PROJECT I/" <br />BEFORE <br />COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD <br />DENVER, COLORADO <br />Marcb 10, 1971 <br /> <br />Mr. Cbairman and Members of tbe Board: <br /> <br />Tbe Fryingpan..ArkansasProject was autborized back in 196Z . <br /> <br />as a multi-purpose project to meet the needs of the Upper Arkanea. <br /> <br />Valley for supplemental irrigation; domestic.. industrial and muni- <br /> <br />cipal water supplies; recreation; flood control; and fish and wildlife <br /> <br />purpoee8. <br /> <br />,. <br /> <br />Construction started in July 1964 and has continued at a fairly <br /> <br />steady pace during the past seven years. Construction-wise, <br /> <br />major features completed during those years were Ruedi and Sugar <br /> <br />Loaf dame and reeervoirs, South Fork and Chapman tunnels, <br /> <br />numeroue accees roads, and the relocation of State Highway 96 and <br /> <br />D&RGW Railroad at Pueblo. Tbe 5. 5 mile Divide Tunnel, now <br /> <br />renamed the Charles H. Boustead Tunnel, is near completion. <br /> <br />Since June of last year, we have awarded new contracts totaling <br /> <br />$ZZ.6 million, including new starts on Pueblo Dam, Hunter Tunnel, <br /> <br />Ne.st Tunnel, a laboratory building at Pueblo Dam, new road <br /> <br />conetrtic:tion and old road improvements, aggregate production, <br /> <br />and ju.t last month we awarded a contract for $1,740,436 to <br /> <br />manufacture the pump-turbine for the powerplant at Twin Lakee. <br /> <br />1 <br />
