The location of the project features are shown on tho Project
Map--Exhibit 1.

The project would conserve the flood flows and residual return flows
occurring in the ~rkansas River at the Oolorado-Kansas State line, which
are surplus to the requirements of the water users above Garden City,
Kansas.. The project is a dual-purpose development and would provide water
for irrigation in Colorado and Kansas and for maintaining a permanent
fish pool in John Martin Reservoir and the potential Granada Reservoir,

The project works consist of the potential Granada Reservoir of about
30JOOO acre-feet capacity situated on the south side of the .lrkansas River
at the State line. The r eserveir 1/0 uld extend from the State line a bout
2 miles west into Colorado and l.5 east into Kansas. .. diversion canal
would divort water from the ,~rkansas River at the site of the highway
bridge on Higm1ay 89, south of Holly and weuld convey the water te the
potential reservoir. The Granada Reserveir weuld be operated in close
coordination with and would cemplement the operatien ef the existing John
Martin Reservoir. The reservoir would be operated in accordance .wi th the
provisions of the Arkansas River Compact and would aecemplish three major
purposest (a) replacement storage would be furnished to offset possible
depletions to John Martin Reservoir resulting from increased use of water
on the streams tributary to that reservoir and permit further utilization
of the proposed Trinidad Project;- (b) permit the maintenance of a per-
manent fish pool at John Martin Reservoir by rephcement of depletions
arising from evaporation from such permanent pool; (c) conserve floYIS
in the Arkansas Hiver n~~ being lost past Garden City. Such flows would
be used fer irrigation in Colorado and Kansas during thegro1/dng season.

DESIGNS .',ND ESTIM;,TES

Location.~f the project facilities are shCNITl on ~1ibit 2, General

Map.
