A REPORT ON PROGRAM ACTIVITIES
,
DENVER REGIONAL COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS

One Added Each 7.5 Minutes--

Population Increased 70,600

Every 7.5 minutes during 1972, the population
of the five-county metropolitan area grew by an
average of one person.
During the 12-month period, this represented
an estimated population increase of 70,600 for
Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Denver and Jefferson
Counties.
The figures are the result of a population study
conducted by the Council of Governments. '
In terms of family units, the region had a net,
gain by migration of one new family every 25
minutes during 1972. New births during the year
averaged one every 23 minutes.
The increase, if averaged over the 12-month
period, would represent a net gain in population of
about 5,883 persons per month.
Averaged on a weekly basis, the net increase
would have been about 1,357 per week, and 'on a
daily basis, the net gain is estimated about 192
persons.
The DRCOG study estimated the region's popu-
lation on January 1, 1973, at 1,385,800 and pro.
jected the 1975 population to reach 1,500,000.
Jefferson and Arapahoe Counties set the pace
for population growth during 1972 and led not
only in numbers of people gained, but also in per-
centage rate of growth for the year.
