PREVIOUSLY DESIGNATED FLOODPLAIN STUDIES
WHEREAS, there have been no previously designated floodplain studies for Special
Flood Hazard Areas within the City of Cortez; and

STUDY TO BE DESIGNATED
WHEREAS, the Federal Insurance Administration (FIA) published a Flood Hazard
Boundary Map (FHBM) for the City of Cortez on May 17, 1974; and

WHEREAS, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) revised and converted
the FHBM map into a map entitled "Flood Insurance Rate Map, City of Cortez, Colorado
(Montezuma County)" dated April I, 1977; and

WHEREAS, said map includes approximate floodplain delineations for tributaries within
the City of Cortez, as of April I, 1977, as listed in Table I:

WHEREAS, said map is deficient due to incorrect corporate limits, a lack of technical
information to support the approximate floodplain delineations, and approximate floodplain

WHEREAS, the Colorado Water Conservation Board is preparing a new report entitled
"Floodplain Information Report, City of Cortez, Colorado" (FIR) dated February 1999 that provides
