The purpose of the
Program is to implement the preferred alternative from the EIS and develop modifications to the
operations of Glen Canyon Dam that protect, mitigate the adverse impacts to, and improve the
values for which Grand Canon National Park and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area were
established. An Adaptive Management Work Group (AMWG) was established to oversee and
guide the Program. The Adoptive Management Work Group held its third meeting on July 21-
22, 1998 in Phoenix, Arizona.

At the July meeting the Work Group acted on the following issues:

. Approved previous meeting minutes.

. Approved renewal of the AMWG charter. The charter of the AMWG has to be
renewed and approved every two years by the AMWG and the Secretary of the
Interior.

. Approved the Glen Canyon Dam Management Objectives and Information Needs.
(The management objectives and information needs were developed by the Technical
Work Group and represent the goals and objectives to be achieved as the AMP.)

. Approved the creation of a science advisory board that would advise the Secretary of
the AMWG on scientific issues.
