Proiect Descriptioll
The City of Golden will participate in a water audit study to identify ways in
which the Coors Ceramics Company can reduce the overall consumption of potable
water. Based on data collected by the Coors Ceramics Environmental and Engineering
staffs and information gathered through the City's Pretreatment Program, it is believed
that changes in production practices could achieve a reduction in overall water use,
Coors Ceramics has identified some areas where improved efficiency and potential water
reuse could be applied. How, where and what changes need to be made can be
determined through a water use audit. The City of Golden will participate in choosing a
qualified person or company to do this study. The City's application is for $4,800 in grant
money to be used for this purpose, Based on the study results, Coors Ceramics will act
on those suggestions that are practical and economically feasible to implement. Any
expenses above and beyond the grant amount of $4800 will be paid for by Coors
Ceramics. A "How To" manual with contacts and records ofthe steps taken in the Coors
Ceramics project will be made available to any individual or business who is interested in
the process involved.

II, Goals/Objectives
Through a water conservation audit, specific areas where the amount of potable
water required for equipmeht cooling and manufacturing processes can be reduced, will
be identified. The study may show that redundant plumbing may be contributing to water
losses.

D1. Proiect Plannin!!
Currently, Coors staifis working with City personnel to:
1, Determine who will perform the study, As of 4/29/97 the City of Golden and
Coors Ceramics have agreed upon Mr.Tom DeBooy to do the study. He is a
retired consultant engineer at Coors Ceramics who was involved in the original
engineering of the cooling system. He is thoroughly familiar with it and the
manufacturing processes of the plant. Mr.DeBooy has submitted an acceptable
proposal to the City and Coors. His rate of$35.00 per hour will be paid with grant
funds provided by the City to Coors Ceramics. Any amount above $4800 will be
paid by Coors from Coors budget.
2. Gather baseline data by detennining current wastewater discharge flows from
process lines through instrument flow monitoring (Coors) and determining current
water use from city billing and metering (Coors and City).
