CRDSS
TASK MEMORANDUM 1.05-2
Study of System Integration Issues
Briefing Room - As Prototype CRDSS
1.0 ISSUE
The RTi consulting team proposed the implementation of a Briefing Room with an evolving
prototype CRDSS for several reasons:
It allows users to evaluate successive CRDSS prototypes throughout Year 1 so that
?
comments about the system can be reviewed and addressed in a timely manner.
It allows the development team to test the performance of the CRDSS in an environment
?
typical of the final working environment. Appropriate design adjustments can be made as
performance issues arise.
It allows State personnel to become authors within the development effort because they can
?
contribute to the effort at any time. Work is not being done by the consultant in an "ivory
tower."
The State has created a Briefing Room at the State's office and has purchased an SGI workstation to
serve as the Briefing Room machine.
Task Memorandum 1.05-22 discusses technical issues related to CRDSS prototyping. The following
general issues apply to the use of the Briefing Room machine for prototyping:
What will the prototype CRDSS contain?
?
How often will the prototype be updated and how will reviewers be notified of updates?
?
How will users gain access to the prototype system?
?
What types of scenarios can be analyzed?
?
What types of displays will be available?
?
How can reviewers' comments be given to the development team?
?
2.0 DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS
The prototype CRDSS on the Briefing Room machine will initially consist of a copy of executable
programs and configuration files needed to run the CRDSS. Source code and libraries will be
archived on the CRDSS machines at RTi to ensure that only one master copy of files exists and is
being edited. The prototype will also consist of supporting third-party software (e.g., INFORMIX
run-time software). The prototype will also contain a current copy of on-line documentation,
1
A275 05.10.94 1.05-2 Malers
