mosaic
including documentation (see Task Memorandum 1.05-12) and applicable UNIX man pages
(see Task Memorandum 1.05-11). Additional information will also be available (see Task
Memorandum 1.05-1).
It is envisioned that users will access the prototype CRDSS on the Briefing Room machine using
login accounts. It is assumed that State personnel who are active system users will be given
individual accounts by the State's system administrator. Other users who may evaluate the system on
a regular basis may also be given individual accounts. A single "crdss_guest" account will be
created to be shared by users who do not regularly review the system. The "crdss_guest" account
will be configured so that the user is isolated from the UNIX operating system. For example, after
logging in, the user will immediately see the main CRDSS application window. A more elaborate
guest login procedure may be developed; however, it is difficult to provide system security if guest
accounts are too open.
RTi proposes developing a single entry point to the CRDSS consisting of a menu and optionally
containing a data browse tool (see Task Memorandum 1.05-16). This program will execute other
programs as necessary. All users will access the CRDSS through this program. Separate CRDSS
components will also run in a stand-alone mode so that development can be streamlined and to allow
future distribution of individual system components.
A user will run models in the user's home directory. DMI utilities (see Task Memorandum 1.05-9)
will allow different input data sets to be specified. The scenarios that are available for analysis
during Year 1 will depend on the scenario handling capabilities of the DMI utilities for each model.
Full scenario management will be implemented in Year 2. A directory structure will exist for the flat
files that are read and created by a model. Users who login under the "crdss_guest" account will be
able to select different scenarios, but results may be overwritten if different users make the same run.
It is anticipated that a general map display, a time series plotting tool, and a network editor will be
available to users, in addition to specific displays for models. Displays for viewing data details will
also be available depending on application. See Task Memoranda 1.05-16 and 1.05-17, and the
model task memoranda for specific details on displays. Displays will offer more features as the
project progresses.
Reviewers will be able to submit comments to developers using methods described in Task
Memoranda 1.05-1 and 1.05-27. Reviewers will also be able to contact developers directly if
desired.
CRDSS software will updated at regular intervals (e.g., monthly) to reflect improvements in the
system. Certain components of the system may be updated more frequently than others. Users will
be notified of changes in the system through Briefing Room material, the CRDSS newsletter, and
other communications.
3.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on the above discussion (and discussions in referenced task memoranda), the following
conclusions and recommendations are made:
2
A275 05.10.94 1.05-2 Malers
