CRDSS
TASK MEMORANDUM 1.05-1
Study of System Integration Issues
Briefing Room - Communications Center
1.0 ISSUE
The main purposes of the Briefing Room workstation are to serve as a proof-of-concept for the
CRDSS and as an evaluation center for the CRDSS. The software and supporting files on the
Briefing Room machine are to represent a typical engineering workstation to be used by State
personnel in the management of water resources. The Briefing Room will also house educational
material related to the CRDSS.
Because the Briefing Room workstation is the centerpiece of the CRDSS evaluation and education
process, it is the machine that is best suited to serve as the communications center for the CRDSS.
This center will apply mainly to communications between the CRDSS development team and people
who are not directly involved with development. The following issues must be addressed in
developing a communications center on the Briefing Room machine:
Is an electronic communications center necessary?
?
What is the function of the communications center?
?
What information will be available at the communications center?
?
How will information be accessed?
?
Who will be responsible for maintaining the communications center?
?
2.0 DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS
On-Line Information
On-line documentation for the CRDSS system, including software documentation and database
Mosaic
information, is available in hypertext format using the program, as described in Task
Memorandum 1.05-12.
On-line documentation also includes a ?CRDSS overview,? consisting of historical information
about water resources issues and organizational information about the CRDSS development team
and State agencies involved with the project (e.g., the Department of Water Resources). The
overview function provides a means to ?walk through? scenario applications of the CRDSS. This
allows users to preview displays as well as water management/planning problems. On-line
Mosaic
information displayed with the program can be printed.
1
A275 01.08.95 1.05-1 Malers
