The requested loan would be used to replace Bennett's Well #5 which has deteriorated
beyond repair. Well #5 is critical to maintain adequate water service to Bennett residents. The
estimated total cost of the project is $280,000. Please see the attached Project Data Sheet for a
location map and project summary.
Background
Bennett is a community of 2,500 people and is located 25 miles east of Denver in south Adams
County and north Arapahoe County. Bennett currently serves its residents with water from the
Denver Basin aquifers. Bennett has tvoo water systems: a north system and a south system. The
north system provides water for the town except for the Antelope Hills Subdivision. The south
system provides potable water to the Antelope Hills subdivision residents as well as non-potable
water for irrigation to the golf course.
Well #5 is one of six wells that supply the north system. It was taken off-line in September 2007
because the well was pumping muddy water due to deterioration of the well casing. Without this
well, Bennett is struggling to provide an adequate supply of water to its residents.
Bennett currently serves approximately 1,100 taps. The town manages, operates, and maintains
the water supply system that is made up of wells, pumps, distribution pipelines, treatment
facilities and storage facilities.
Water Supply Protection • Watershed Protection & Flood bTitigation • Stream & Lake Protection • Water Supply Planning & Finance
Water Conservation & Drought Planning • Intrastate Water Management & Development
