I understand that you plan to attend the cere- <br /> <br />mony at Rifle Gap Dam tomorrow, and I certainly want to add my personal <br /> <br />invitation to you to do so. <br /> <br />Today I would like to give you a rundown on Region 4 construction and <br /> <br />planning activities and other matters of interest to you. <br /> <br />CONSTRUCTION <br /> <br />At Glen Canyon the contractor has completed all work connected with <br /> <br />installation of the left diversion tunnel plug and spillway elbow. Self- <br /> <br />guided tours have been in operation through the dam and powerplant since <br /> <br />May 25, 1967. Since July 1 these tours have been initiated from the <br /> <br />nearly completed Visitor Center. <br /> <br />On September 14, at 2:30 p.m., Morrow Point .Dam will be "topped out" <br /> <br />with placement of the last bucket of mass concrete. Since the crest of <br /> <br />the dam is only 12 feet wide, it will not be practical to hold a large <br /> <br />public ceremony. The occasion of "topping out" is an important mile- <br /> <br />stone in construction of any concrete dam, but it is particularly note- <br /> <br />worthy in that Morrow Point Dam is the Bureau's first double-curvature, <br /> <br />thin -arch structure.
