<br />ODG729 <br /> <br />Forest Service no plans exist for development of this site. <br /> <br />MINERALS: Mineral activity is relatively low. There are no <br />outstanding lease applications, or claims within the study area. <br />The mineral estate to 640 acres near the Rocky Basin is owned by a <br />private party, this area is not within the proposed wilderness. <br />LEASES: None has been identified. <br />CLAIMS: None has been identified. <br /> <br />TIMBER: About 96% (40,018 acres) of the WSA is capable of timber <br />production, 30% of which could be timbered due to degree of the <br />slopes. Most of the trees are Douglas fir. <br /> <br />GRAZING: About 70% of the WSA is grazed by cattle and recreation <br />horses. Nine spring developments and 4 miles of drift fences are <br />in the southern half of the area. Current grazing is 2,860 animal <br />unit months per year on 5 different allotments -- four cattle and <br />one sheep. <br /> <br />RECREATION: There are about 55 miles of trails in the WSA. <br />Access to the WSA from the south is by the First Fork Road and <br />First Notch Road, both of which come within 1/4 mile of the <br />boundary. Access through the north is by Piedra Road and Sand <br />CreeK Bench Road, both of which come within 1/8 mile of the <br />boundary. <br /> <br />OTHER: All surface and mineral estates within the designated area <br />are owned by the united states. <br />
