<br />. <br /> <br />001984 <br /> <br />REPORT OF SAN JUAN RIVER ENGINEERING COMMITTEE <br /> <br />January, 1959 <br /> <br />- - .. - - <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />,"" <br /> <br />A report on the San Juan-Chama, a transmountain diversion <br />project prepared by the Bureau of Reclamation was completed in <br />November 1955. A lilupplement to this report was issued in May, 1957. <br />The supplemental report recommends the construction of an <br />initial unit of the project providin~ for a diversion in Colorado <br />and use in the State of New Mexico of an average of 110,000 acre <br />feet of water from the headwater tributaries (Navajo River, Little <br />Navajo River and Rio Blanco) of the San Juan River. This initial <br />unit is to be so designed and constructed that ultimately an addi- <br />tional 125,000 acre feet of water could he diverted from other tri- <br />butaries (West and East Forks) of the San Juan River in Colorado. <br />The water is to be uliled in the Rio Grande Basin in New Mexico. <br />Coordinated with the time of iSliluance of the San Juan- <br />Chama reports, a report on the Navajo Project for use of San Juan <br />River water in New Mexico, was prepared by the Bureau of Indian <br />Affairs,. The report was completed in January, 1955. A supplement <br />to thilil report was issued in March, 1957 <br />The supplemental report recommends the construction of <br />canals andpUlllpinqfacilitielil for the irrigation ,of nO,630 aores <br />of new land in New Mexico.
