General <br /> <br />The area appears to lend itself to recreational use and develop- <br /> <br />ment, and land already acquired seems adequate for those developmonts that <br /> <br />can be justified. It will provide a focal point from where visitors may <br /> <br />obtain information concerning the diversion of water from the western slope <br /> <br />of the Continental Divide to the eastern slopes, including the cver-nll <br /> <br />plan of operation of the project. It will further provide for public use <br /> <br />cnd enjoyment of those recreational activities to which the area appears <br /> <br /> <br />best suited. <br /> <br />B. Speoific ~~~'atio~ Use <br /> <br />1. Informational and Bducational <br /> <br />Considerable publio interest has developed in the Colorado-Big <br /> <br />Thompson Diversion Project, and many people have visited the East Portal <br /> <br />nrea since construction activities began seeking information concerning the <br /> <br />project and its operation. It is believed that this interest win be sus- <br /> <br />t'"inC'd throughout the construction period and thnt it will continue lifter <br /> <br />the pnje ct is corrpleted and in operation. ThJ Enst Portnl area would be <br /> <br />a desirable place to presont to the visiting public a visual explanntion <br /> <br />of tho over-all cperaticn of tho projeot, and suitable structuros, walkwt',ys, <br /> <br />and other facilities designed to meet hEmvy use win be required. With <br /> <br />proper illumination, large numbers of visitors can be expected to visit tho <br /> <br />area at night. <br /> <br />An exhibit building is proposed to house a relief ~~p of the <br /> <br />Colorado-Big Thompson Project.
