GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The East Portal area of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project, comprising

approximately 119 acres, is lOcated in Wind River Valley, Larimer County,
Colorado I It contains the outlet of the Alv$. B. Adams Tunnel. An earth

fill dam located approximately 700 feet east of the tunnel opening forms

a small reservoir of approximately two sutfaoe aores. Elevation at the top

of the dam is 8,265, and the maximum water level in the reservoir is 8,2580

be maintained. Water diverted by way of the tunnel from the west slope s

of the Continental Divide will flow through the East Portal Reservoir into

the Aspen Creek siphon, the inlet of which is located at the south end of

the dam. From the Aspen' Creek siphon, the water wi 11 be oarried by wa~ of

the RamS Horn Tunnel to the Marys Lake power plant. Pending completion

of the Rams Horn and Prospect Mountain Tunnels, water entering the East

Portal Reservoir by way of the Adams Tunnel is now carried to the Big

Thompson River through the existing Northern.Colorado Water Conservancy

The area adjoins the east boundary of Rooky Mountain National Park,

and it is approximately four miles southwest of the town of Estes Park.
