SOUl~ ~gr~ Groundwater Model Development Report

Oct. ]f, 2001
Page 18

)

6.0

SCREENING OF HYDROGEOLOGIC DATA FOR
SOUTH METRO AREA

Th~ purpose of this section is to describe the data, data screening methodologies, and
results of data screening for the SB-74 Denver Basin Groundwater Model. On April 16,
2001, we submitted a memo describing our initial evaluation of the SB-74 model,
comparing model property values and distributions to Denver Basin hydrogeologic data
reports. This section updates that analysis by comparing SB-74 parameters to data
provided by South Metro water providers, as well as information contained in the SEO's
Denver Basin groundwater database and in the USGS National Water Information
System (NWIS) groundwateT database.

\

Section 6. I provides an overview of the various data sets used in reviewing the SB-74
model and explains the methodology used to screen the data. Section 6.2 presents the
screening results to date, and Section 6.3 considers the implications of the screening
results.

6.1 Data Overview And Screening Methodology

Participating water providers have gathered site-specific data for inclusion into the
groundwater modeling effort. The data requested by the Study Board included:

1) Transmissivity (7)

2) Hydraulic Conductivity (K, derived by dividing T by full aquifer thickness)

3) Aquifer storage coefficient

4) Specific Yield (Data where available, decreed where so given)

5) Vertical conductivity between layers, if available

6) Aquifer top and bottom elevation (presumably from lithologic picks from well
logs)

7) Well screen elevations

Hydrosphere Resoun::e Consultants
1002 Walnut Suite 200, Boulder, CO 80302
PO Box 445, SocornJ, NM 87801
