,

.

.

annual sums of actual Hoover generated energy plus deficiency

energy received. Replacement of this energy throuGh purchases

of off-peak steam energy has cost Metropolitan approximately

$ 3,282,000 excluding interest. Calculations for determining

deficiency energy indicate that during one of these years secondary

energy would have been available. The added cost of replaCing such

secondary energy has not been evaluated, but could be significant.

B. Es tima ted damages to Metropolitan if
Filling Criteria is Prematurely Terminated

Premature termination of the Filling Criteria would

result in an additional cost to Metropolitan for purchases of energy

to replace the defiCiency energy not received from the United States.

Using that amount of the defiCiency energy supplied in operating

year 1968-69 as typical, the cost to Metropolitan of replaCing

such deficiency energy would range from $1,200,000 to $1,450,000

per year.

C. Anticipated Damage to Metropolitan Even
If FillinG Criteria is Con tinued

Even with the continuation of the Filling Criteria

diminutions of firm and secondary energy will continue until the

Colorado River Storage Project reservoirs have been filled as

provided in the Filling Criteria, In addition, all Hoover power

contractors, including Metropolitan, will be subjected to higher

Hoover firm energy rates later in the project payout period 0

-29-
