Some individuals who have sold their shares in the

company intend to continue to irrigate the lands associated with

these shares through the use of wells. The additional pumping

will cause damage to senior appropriators unless measures are

taken for their protection.

2. Transfer of irrigation water away from the land will

reduce the tax base and, therefore, the revenues available to

the county, the school districts, and others.

This is not a problem of the Division of Wildlife, but it is

an unfortunate by-product of the transfer. A detailed estimate

was made of the revenue reductions resulting from transferring

this water into John Martin reservoir. Based on the 1972 mill

levies, the most recent assessed valuations, and the assumption

that all affected lands would be assessed as dry farm land after

the transfer, the annual reduction would amount to $15,500, of

which, about $11,100 would be the reduction in revenues to the

school districts. ..On a percentage basis, only the SWink school

-distr ict-wi-ll--suffer-a-significan t -reduction- -as-shown. on-the- - - --

6
