<br />'r,' <br /> <br />, <br />. ,1", n??W~ <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Unit 7 (3,0'l0 acres) is a narrOl; strip along the Horrison Creek P,oad. <br />It inCludes isolated parcels of National Forest Lanc.s that are not in <br />the adjacent Inventoried Roa(11css Areas. It also includes some forested <br />lands which are on slopes over 4n%. Private lands account for 1,4~5 <br />acres. <br /> <br />Unit 8 (1,010 acres) is a rclativ~ly flat area that supports stands of <br />lodgepole pine anrt Engel~ann sp~uce stands. The area has had a substan- <br />tial amount of timber harvest activities during the past 20 years. <br /> <br />Unit 9 (2,690 acres) is similar to Unit 8, however, the timber acti- <br />vities date back to the 1~40's. <br /> <br />Unit 10 (5,590 acres) is the area alonr. U.S. 40 that is hetween Inven- <br />toried Roadless Areas DP and I'Q. ,This"llnit has develcpc,] camp and <br />picnic grounds and observation sites. It contains 160 acres of private <br />land. <br /> <br />Unit 11 (18,145 acres) is an area with heavy social impacts. It inCludes <br />the Steamboat Ski area, two high voltage powerlines, Fish Creek Falls, <br />[jot Springs, two water storage reservoirs, a water treatment plant, an <br />electronic site, and other smaller uses. It co~cains three campground". <br />Private land accounts for 5,ROO acreS. l1uch of the vegetation is brush <br />and aspen with Engelmann spruce at the higher elevations. <br /> <br />Unit 12 (1~,920 acres) is a highly developed Unit. T:le north end has <br />tillwer-harvest activities and some older mining. It has numerous four- <br />"heel drive roads. rluch of the vegetation on the south slopes is brush <br />and aspen. Private lands account for 7,460 acres including 910 acres <br />north of Unit 6. <br /> <br />Unit 13 (2,820 acres) is bet,.een the \':ild and Scenic P-iver Study Area <br />and Wilderness Study Area DA wh:.ch is the Planning Unit boundary. <br />Mining exploration activities I;C1'C con,',ucted in the south portion. <br />Vegetation is variable. <br /> <br />Unit 14 (5,030 acres) is a developed a:!'ea between the River Study Area <br />and Wilderness Study Area D~. This area has had forest management <br />activities dating back to the 1920's. It is heavily covered with <br />Engelmann spruce and lodgepole pine. <br /> <br />" <br />" <br />
