<br />-' <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />I:"~ IP70-: <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />ELl:-YAi~PA PLANNING mnT <br /> <br />Units for Analysis <br /> <br />May 1977 <br /> <br />The Elk-Yampa Planning Unit was st~atified into fourteen analysis units. <br />These analysis units are subdivisions of the planning unit which are <br />similar with respect to certain characteristics such as social issues, <br />presence of usable resources, C1J.rrent uses, characteristic terrain, etc. <br />Units 1-6 were delineated since their analysis is required by law or <br />policy. <br /> <br />Unit 1 (20,100 acres) includes Inventoried P-e,ariless Areas DN ar.d no <br />(Morrison and Green Ridge) plus contiguous road less and undeveloped <br />areas not inventoried. The rcadless areas were inventoried as two areas <br />separated by a constructed road, however, the road was ",ismapped and is <br />actually included within Roadless Area ON. Huch of tl:e area 1",5 unstable <br />or potentially unstable soils including ~luddy Slide, a geologic feature. <br />Included are 420 acres of private land. IJithin the Planninr. Unit bcundary <br />are 14,060 acres. The remaining acres are roadless areas outside of the <br />Planning Unit boundary. <br /> <br />Uni.t 2 (67,070 acres) is Inventoried Roadless Areas DP and OP-l (Service <br />Creek) plus contiguous areas. Included are 510 acres of privace land. <br />O~e thousand, six hundred and forty acres are outside of the Planning <br />Unit boundary. The Unic has shallow soils and rock outcrops. It is <br />disccted by Silver, Service and Green Creeks. <br /> <br />Unit 3 (50,790 acres) is Roadless Area DO (Fishhook). This Unit str~d11e~ <br />the Continental Divide and has 5,490 acres outside the Planning Unit <br />boundary on the east side of the Divide. It is ~ high water producer; <br />has shallow soils and receives a high amount of non-vehicular recreation <br />use. <br /> <br />Unit 4 (71,220 acres) is the rcrtion of Wilderness Seudy Area DB and <br />OB-l (Had Creek) wi thin the tl.,i t. <br /> <br />Unit 5 (29,310 acres) inclurles thitt portion of the Ht. Zirkel Wilderness <br />west of the Continental Divide. <br /> <br />Unit 6 (5,375 acres) is che corridor of the Elk \'!ild and Scenic River <br />Study Area outside of the Wii,de:mess, and lVilderness Study Areas. The <br />corridor is ~ mile on each side of the river. This unit contains 960 <br />acres of private lsnd. The River including chose nortions within the <br />Wilderness and Wilderness Study Area will be studied as to its eligibility <br />for inclusion into the National ~ild and Scenic River System. <br /> <br />1 <br />
