-~------

SUMMARY SHEETS (Continued)

is to be constructed with non-Federal funds. Supplies for Dove Creek
and the surrounding rural areas will be conveyed in the Dove Creek Canal.
The water users will be responsible for any required treatment and dis-
tribution facilities.

Powerplants will be located on McPhee Dam and the Towaoc Canal to gen-
erate power that will enter the Colorado River Storage Project power
transmission system. The McPhee Dam facility will operate year-round
on fishery releases from McPhee Reservoir, while the Towaoc Canal Power-
plant will operate from April to October on the irrigation water supply
conveyed through the canal.

Recreation facilities will be provided at McPhee Reservoir and along the
Dolores River downstream of McPhee Dam. Project water will be released
from McPhee Reservoir to provide a stream fishery, and easements have
been acquired along the river for public access. With the abandonment
of the Rocky Ford Ditch, Totten Reservoir will no longer serve an irri-
gation purpose for the MVIC. To maintain the fishery in the reservoir,
Reclamation would make available up to 800 acre-feet of unallocated
project water from McPhee Reservoir already reserved for fish and wild-
life purposes. Money for operation and maintenance of Totten Reservoir
would come from salinity control funds and Reclamation anticipates the
MVIC will continue managing the reservoir. Releases will also be avail-
able for white-water boating, but boating opportunities will decrease
(expected to occur at some time in the future) when demand for water
supplies from McPhee Reservoir are at a maximum. Land around McPhee
Reservoir will be acquired and managed as a deer and elk winter range
to compensate for losses of big game habitat in the reservoir basin.
A wildlife management area will also be developed around Dawson Draw
Reservoir.

PROJECT FEATURES

McPhee
Reservoir

Great Cut
Dik.~!/

Dawson Draw
Reservoir

Dams:
Height above streambed (feet)
Crest length (feet)
Reservoirs:
Capacity (acre-feet):
Active
Inactive
Dead
Total
Surcharge
Water surface area (acres):
Total pool
Inactive pool
!I Part of McPhee Reservoir.

270
1,370

64
1,900

56
1,085

229,000
152,000
100
381,100
18,200

o
3,210
100
3,310
2,360

4,470
2,160

294
294

S-2
