Metropolitan Water Supply Investigations - Phase II Plan of Study
8/16/94 5:04 PM

Page 23

comparison of the alternatives and to identify up-front potential for shared use
of existing facilities.

Under the preferred operational schemes, estimate the frequency versus
amount of groundwater withdrawal.

Evaluate the long term rate of depletion as well as the annual local drawdowns
and the additional facilities and costs associated with constant withdrawals in
declining aquifers.

Evaluate the effect of aquifer recharge on the life of the groundwater system at
conservative and aggressive levels of recharge.

c) Output

Quantitative and qualitative comparisons of alternatives relating primarily to
firm yield, economics, and locations for delivery of supply.

Critiques of existing information and identify areas of further study,

A review of Denver Water's modeling capability and specific
recommendations for modeling of preferred operational schemes.

A comparison of the economic life of the aquifers under the various
operational schemes identified.

A comparison of the economic life of aquifers at the various levels of aquifer
recharge.

An opinion regarding an acceptable economic life for the systein, including
recommendations on aquifer recharge.

A task report document will be prepared which will include the following
topics:

1. Denver Basin Bedrock Aquifers
- Denver Basin Groundwater Resources
- Denver Basin Aquifer Supply Inventory
- Artificial Recharge Potential
- Recommendations on identified information deficiencies

2. Alluvial Aquifers
- Maps delineating the alluvial aquifer.
- Maps showing areas of water quality concern.
- Discussion of conceptual conjunctive use plans.
- Analysis of technical feasibility and sustainability.
- Economic analysis of conjunctive use of alluvial aquifers.
- Discussion of administrative policies and recommendations of possible
changes in policy.
