Metropolitan Water Supply Investigations. Phase II Plan of Study
8/16/94 5:04 PM .

Page 15

c) Output

A task memorandum to document methodologies, assumptions, sources of
information used, and findings.

d) Sub-Task Leader: Robert Weaver

7. Sub-Task 4g Investigate Effluent Use Water Quality Thresholds

a) Purpose

The purpose of this sub-task will be to compile the data and summarize the
conclusions of previous investigations for water quality requirements
associated with reuse of municipal effluent. The uses to be considered
include:

. agricultural irrigation
. forage and feed crops (hay, feed grains)
. crops for fresh human consumption (vegetables)
. other crops (sugar beets, etc.)
. urban irrigation
. industrial uses

Each of these uses are subject to minimum standards for certain parameters.
Threshold parameters would be based upon regulation or guidelines developed
by EPA and others. Higher standards may be appropriate, based upon user
specific criteria, public interest or process requirements.

b) Approach

Review available literature and regulatory documents pertaining to water
quality considerations for reuse of municipal effluent for various types of use.

Interview representatives ex.perienced with the various proposed uses of
effluent in order to identify perceived water quality needs.

Document current known instances of effluent reuse to identify water quality
constraints .

Compile water quality thresholds, both regulatory and desirable.

Compile existing baseline water quality data for stream flows and various
effluent sources in the metro area.
