water for Red Mesa and Dry Side areas. Water from the La Plate ~I
River would be diverted into the-reservoir through a small diversion
dam and canal.

The Animas Power Plant, located on the Animas River 12 miles north of
Durango, would generate power to be used along with supplemental
---purchase.s-of ]5o\\:1er from the Colorado River Storage Project to provide
power for project ptunping. This plant would be a "run of the river"
type that would utilize a 2.5 mile long tunnel to gain 330 feet of
dynamic head. The plant itself would be recessed into the vertical
canyon wall to minimize asthetic degradation.

Sprinkler irrigation is planned for all projectlands.-Theunder-
ground lateral systems would provide sprinkler pressure at each farm
turnout. Ptunping plants would provide this pressure where the ground
slope is insufficient to adequately pressurize the pipelines. Pro-
. ject-drains.wou1d be provided, wher~ required, on project . land.. -

Fisheries would be created in the inactive pool of project reservoirs,
In addition, recreational facilities would be provided at each reser-

-The Definite Plan Report and Environmental Statement are scheduled
for completion in May 1977. Environmental hearings are scheduled
.for September 1977 and repayment contracts with the Colorado and
New Mexico Water Conservancy Districts are expected to be executed
- _ during January 1978. .. Construction activities in the form of land
acquisition and minor contracts could begin during F.Y. 1978.
