After

conclusions have been reached, it should be possible to make recommend-

ations as to the miniInum flDW that will be required to mainta~ as

nearly as possible the values for .Ihich the Monument is noted.

Under the present proposed plan for operation of the
Gunnison-Arkansas Project, the total annual flow of 36,000 acre feet,

or an average flow of about fifty sec.ond,f.ee.t.! is contemplated

through the Monument. The stream flow for the period October 1, 1943,
to September 30, 1946, below the present Gunnison Tunnel which supplies

water to the Uncompahgre Project, as recorded by the Water Resources

Branch of the Geological Survey, is shown on a graph included in the
report with other charts and maps far Group B. The minimum flow re-
corded was about :t'ifty:<secondfeetoJ. This minimum fl"w, comparable
to that contemplated under the proposed plan of operation of the project,

was reached for a brief period during April 1945. The river was also at

or near the minimum flow mark for brief periods in August, September,

and October during the 1943-46 period.

2, These six sites lie in a region Df outstanding

scenery, ranging from the sp,",ctacular Black CanJion of the Glli"J.nison to

the rugged peaks of the Continental Divicie, ,'here excellent opportun-

ities for outdoor recreation exist.

3. From a study of the proposed plans of o~eration for

the 12-year period, 1930-1941; it is apparent that, ~hi1e some of

21
