.

.-16-
1. The Riverside System
The Riverside system consists of a headgate on the north bank
of the South Platte River a few miles upstream from Hardin; an
intake canal to Riverside Reservoir, which is located on the north
side of the river near Masters; and a distribution canal from the
reservoir to the irrigated lands. The distribution canal is quite
long, extending along the north side of the river to a point
near Snyder, which is about 35 miles east of the reservoir. The
irrigated lands lie largely around Fort Morgan, on the north side
of the river. In addition, there are an outlet canal from the
reservoir to the river and five large capacity wells and pumps
located below the reservoir which pump directly into the distri-
bution canal.
The complete Riverside system is shown on U.S.G.S. Quadrangle
maps for the Barnesvi11e, Hardin, Dearfie1d, Masters, orchard,
Weldona, Fort Morgan, Brush West and Brush East Quadrangles.
The Riverside system is controlled by the Riverside Reservoir
and Land Company and the Riverside Irrigation District. The
Company owns the reservoir, inlet canal, and their appurtenances,
and four of the wells. The District owns the distribution canal
and one of the wells. (This is the opposite of the situation under
the Bijou system, where the company owns the canal and the dis-
trict the reservoir). There are about 22,000 acres of irrigable
land under the distribution canal; District taxes are paid on
21,424 acres.
(The Company also operates the inlet canal as a "carrier
ditch" for the Illinois Ditch right of 22 clfls, which is taken
out of the inlet canal upstream from the reservoir).

.

~

.

.

.

WOODWARD.Cl YOE_SHERARD AND ASSOCIATES
