The Virgin River roundtail chub, GiZa l'obusta seminuda,
is presently in this classification. The Virgin River spinedace, Lepido-
meda moZZispinis moZZispinis, is currently classed as protected. The
woundfin minnow, PZagoptel'U8 argentissimus is still classed as endangered
by State regulations. Fish species are listed in Appendix C. The appendix
also provides USDI Fish and Wildlife Service list of the proposed and
listed endangered and threatened species that may be present in the area.

Wildlife - A total of 169 species of birds have been identified
in the Virgin Valley Subeva1uation Unit. This includes species classified
as breeding in the area, transients or winter residents as well as those
shown as accidental sightings. This data on birds is from a list of
Clark County avifauna presented by Austin and Bradley (1971) and modified
by information provided by Johnson (1973), Lawson (1972), Ryser (1970),11
and records on file with the Nevada Department of Wildlife.

Migratory game birds such as mourning doves, canada geese, and ducks
utilize the acquatic habitat. Pheasant and quail are also found, but their
range and numbers are limited. The Nevada Department of Wildlife, Overton
Wildlife Management Area is located at the confluence of Virgin River and
Lake Mead. It provides protected habitat for these waterfowl and upland
birds.

The wildlife threatened and endangered species on
list within the program area include "Listed Species":
Peregrine falcon. See Appendix A, page A-17.

the federal (USFWS)
Bald eagle and

A liat of ninety-three species of mammals (12 nonconfirmed and 2
feral) found in the study unit was compiled from information presented
by Deming (1963), RaIl (1946), Ryser (N.D.), and records of the Nevada
Department of Wildlife.

In addition to fish and birds, the USFWS list of wildlife, ,threat-
ened and endangered species are "Proposed Species": Muddy Valley urban
snail, Pahranagat Valley turban snail, White River snail and desert tor-
toise. "Candidate Species" include the Virgin Valley frog, Gila monster,
desert tortoise and spotted bat. See Appendix A, page A-17.

Vegetation - Vegetation on irrigated agricultural land consists
primarily of legumes, grasses and small grains. The estimated impact
area is within the confinea of the valley'bottom. Range conditions
improve very slowly in this arid climate. Future conditions of the
rangeland resources would be unaffected by any of the proposed alternatives.

Vegetation on wildlife land that has been classified as wetland
according to Wetlands of the U.S. Fiah and Wildlife Service Circular
39 are: sa1tcedar (tamt:a'i:& pentandl'aJ, big saltbush (At!'ipZe:r ZentifomsJ,

11 See bibliography of references cited on page C-6.

23

, \ - f' "10
" .. t\
