Large channel losses occur in this section <br />so that water is seldom called downstream from the project <br />area to satisfy senior appropriations. Based on channel <br />loss data, the Bureau of Reclamation has made a study of <br />the effect of the proposed project on the present usable <br />water supply at the mouth of the Purgatoire. The study <br />indicates an average annual depletion of 200 acre feet with <br /> <br />the depletions for individual years of the study period <br />ranging between zero and 1,500 acre feet. In only 3 of the <br />25 years would the depletion exceed 400 acre feet; <br />Combined effects of flood control and irrigation, <br />according to the studies of the Corps and the Bureau <br />indicate an average annual depletion of about 400 acre <br />feet. For individual years the range of depletions would <br />be between zero and 1700 acre feet, with 11 of the 25 years <br />having depletions above the average. In 4 of these, <br />depletions would be in excess of 1,000 acre feet. For <br />the remaining 14 years of the study period, depletions <br />would be considerably below the average.
