o
~
~
OJ

12

The State Game and Fish Commission and Fish and

Wildlife Service pointed out the advantages of a permanent

fishery pool eight feet in depth, and asked consideration

of a borrow area lake below the dam. The report states

that no substantial quantities of suitable borrow are

available where the pit might be filled by seepage, and

that in view of irrigation demands, it does not appear

practicable to include a minimum fishery pool in the

reservoir at this time.

The Chairman, Southwest Field Committee, Department
of Interior, with letter dated January 30, 1953, inclosed
a joint report by the U.S.Geological Survey and U.S.
Bureau of Mines entitled ..The Effect of the Proposed

Trinidad Reservoir on Coking Coal Resources".

A subsequent letter from the same Chairman, and

other letters reproduced in Appendix G of the review

report, from the Regional Director, Region IV, U.S.

Bureau of Mines, containing comments by the District
Geologist for Colorado, Geological Survey Ground Water
Resource Branch, indicate consIderable concern as to the

possible effects of the proposed project on coal resources.

Representatives of these and other agencies will no doubt

present their views to the Water Conservation Board.
