Gildersleeve, Chief Engineer <br /> <br />~. <br />j,-/ <br /> <br />Review Report on Survey for Flood Control <br />on Purgatoire River, Colorado <br />(Transmitted to Colorado Water Conservation <br />Board under date April 23, 1954) <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />1\ <br />If' <br />,: <br /> <br />Summary and Recommendations of Report <br />A survey report on a channel improvement project was <br /> <br />transmitted to Congress January 24, 1944, by the Secretary <br /> <br /> <br />of War, and was published as House Document No. 387, 78th <br /> <br /> <br />Congress, 2nd Session. The project was authorized sub- <br /> <br /> <br />stantially in accordance with the House Document, by <br /> <br /> <br />Public Law 534, 78th Congress, 2nd Session, approved <br /> <br /> <br />December 22, 1944. The total cost for this project was <br /> <br /> <br />set at $1,035,000 of which the cost to the United States <br /> <br /> <br />would amount to $909,000 and to local interests $126,000. <br /> <br />The House Document reported on possible alternates to <br /> <br />t <br /> <br />the recommended floodway, including a dam 107 feet above <br />streambed at the Sopris site above T~inidad for flood <br />control and irrigation, to provide flood protection equal <br />to that of the maximum flood of record (September 1904), <br />and make available about 5,500 acre feet of additional <br />water to irrigators annually. <br /> <br />...'" <br />~' <br />, . <br /> <br />!'- <br />
