001J971)

integration of precipitation augmentation into a comprehensive
consideration of all alternate sources of water supply to meet
future needs, Intelligent long-range decisions can only be reached
after all alternate water supply sources have been carefully ana-
lyzed and compared.

Application Analysis - - Environmental Relations

Solving the many problems of integrating precipitation augmentation

into environment and natural needs is a major element of this develop-

ment program. Major and continuing emphasis will be given to environ-

mental considerations.

In considering the introduction of precipitation augmentation into the

water resource management picture, all possible undesirable side

effects must be analyzed and minimized, Careful evaluation will be

made of the social-cultural impact, economic effect, and the effect on

natural species and regimes.

Two approaches will be used in achieving a successful and meaningful

consideration of environmental relations. Through careful investiga-

tions and research including schematic and model studies, and labora-

tory and field experiments, the necessary effect estimates and guide-

lines will be provided. Careful monitoring and evaluation of the

actual effect of operational development activities will also identify

problem areas and define the nature of the problems to be encountered

in those areas.

<;;;

34

~;{~$l!!j$;;l~~~~~.i'i~t~il~lt~W$!lfct.~IG
