Average linnual l1amages. - The average annual damages that would

result from the occurrence of floods under the present state of develop-

ment in the areas considered are estimated at ;;$22&,.700i. Investif1:tions. - The investigations conducted by the Bureau of

Reclamation on the irrigation aspects of the upper Purgatoire River basin

comprise studies of the water supply available for irrigation use and

irrigation water requirements. The Bureau of Reclamation also studied

the operational and economic problems of the area that would be affected

by the proposed irrigation project. In addition they developed plans

for the conservation of water and its utilization in meeting the re-

quirements of the irrigated area. Further, an analysis was made of

economic justification, repayment ability of farm operators, and finan-

cial feasibility of irrigati~n. The irrigation phase of this report is

based on the IrrigatLon Report - Trinidad Reservoir Project, Colorado,

prepared by the Bureau of Reclamation as appendix D. Also a sununary of

the Irrigation Report was furnished for inclusion in the sections

dealing_spaci..fica.lJ.y. wli..th-irrigatioIL.fea:tures in the text of this report.

56.
