0")(00
U~t

.

.

,

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S MONTHLY REPORT
TO THE
COLORADO RIVER BOARD OF CALIFORNIA

Julv ll. 2001

ADMINISTRATION

Board Retreat

The Board's third annual retreat has been firmed up with the Lake Arrowhead Resort for
October 10-11,200 I, By now, you should have received a letter telling you ofthe activities planned
and the deadline for making your room reservations, The deadline for reservations is SeDtember 6.
2001, For planning purposes, I would like to take a little time at the July meeting to begin outlining
the various topics the Board members might be interested in discussing at the retreat.

Board Meeting Schedule

With IBWC's selection of September 11-12,2001, as the meeting dates for the Minute 306
Symposium in Mexicali, a conflict has arisen concerning the Board's September meeting date which
is also scheduled for September 12'h I would normally propose moving the meeting date back a
week to September 19'h, however, many of the Board members will be participating in the Colorado
Symposium in Santa Fe, New Mexico, sponsored by the Water Education Foundation, which is
scheduled for September 19-20, 2001, I therefore, would recommend to the Board that we cancel
the September meeting unless there is some pressing issue that needs to discuss or approve at that
meeting,

PROTECTION OF EXISTING RIGHTS

Colorado River Water ReDort

During May 2001, storage in the major Upper Basin reservoirs increased by 1,264,000
acre-feet and storage in the Lower Basin reservoirs decreased by 551,000 acre-feet. Total System
active storage as of the end of May was 48,620 million acre-feet (mat) or 81 percent of capacity.
which is 4,529 maf less than one year ago,

June releases from Hoover, Davis, and Parker Dams averaged 18,140, 17,400 and 13,140
cubic feet per second (cfs), respectively, Plarmed releases from those three dams for the month of
July 2001 are 15,680, 16, I 50 and 13,190 cfs, respectively, TheJuly releases represent those needed
to meet downstream water requirements including those caused by reduced operation of Senator
Wash reservoir.
