000735

I
I.

PROCLAMATION
WILDERNESS IN WYOMING WEEK

Whereas:

Wyoming is known for its scenic grandeur and open spaces, much of which
is included in National Forests, providing a variety of products and
opportunities for all citizens, and,

Whereas:

A system of Wilderness and Primitive Areas has been established on these
National Forests through the years by the Forest Service, U. S. Department
of Agriculture, for management of 2,376,000 acres of Wyoming
untrammeled by man, and

H
I

Whereas:

The need for wise use of our land and natural resources and the harvest of
forest products is increasing, yet the need of a growing population for
Wilderness and the experience it provides is also growing.

t
I
,

Now, therefore: I hereby proclaim this as a week of recognition for

National Forest Wilderness in Wyoming

il
II

and commend the Forest Service, U. S. Department of Agriculture, for pioneering the
establishment of the first National Forest Primitive Area half a century ago as part of a
balanced program of resource use, and I further urge the citizens of Wyoming to continue
their concern and interest in the use of Wyoming's natural resources, including its beauty
and solitude.

Stanley Hathaway
Governor of Wyoming
