ALTERNATIVE 3
STORAGE OF MOUNTAIN
TRIBUT ARY FLOWS

Geer Canyon, Coffin top and Grey
Mountain Reservoirs were evaluated
as part of the mountain tributary stor-
age alternative, These three potential
storage sites are located within the SI.
Vrain Creek and Cache la Poudre
River sub-basins and would too deliver
40.000 acre-Ieet of additional water.
The proposed reservoirs would be
utilized to store mountain tributary
flows, with the possibility of transfer-
rlng streamflow from one sub, basin to
another.

Geer Canyon Reservoir would be
located about five miles north of
Boulder on Left Hand Creek within
the SI. Vrain Creek sub, basin, This
reservoir would be designed to store
the waters of SI. Vrain Creek as well
as to provide alternative storage for
existing direct flow and reservoir
decrees within the Left Hand Creek
sub. basin, Geer Canyon Reservoir
would provide 4,500 acre-feet of addi-
tional water supply annually,

The Coffin top Reservoir would be
located in Boulder County on South
SI. Vrain Creek, approximately 1 y,
miles southwest of Lyons, The project
would be constructed for water
supply, hydroelectric power genera-
tion and recreation, The project would
provide for diversion of water from
North and South SI. Vrain Creeks, An
estimated 18,500 acre-feet of water
would be delivered annually,

Grey Mountain Reservoir, on the
Cache la Poudre River. west of Fort
Collins. would deliver an estimated
17.000 'acre-feet of water.

The market' valued outputs of this
alternative would be municipal and
industrial water supply and hydroe-
lectric power. Net annual benefits are
estimated to be $25,6 million, This
amounts to a 8.6 percent rate of return
on the estimated required investment
of over $299 million,

Coflintop Reservoir, although not
sized for flood control. would serve to
reduce flooding on North SI.
