Four units were authorized by the Colo- rado River Basin Salinity Control Act (Public Law 93-320, June 24, 1974), These included the Grand Valley and Paradox Units in Colorado: Las Vegas Wash Unit, Nevada; and Crystal Geyser Unit, Utah, Construction began on the Grand Valley Unit with award of contracts to build the field station and line with concrete 6.8 miles of the Government Highline Canal under Stage I of the Unit An operation and maintenance contract was signed on March 11, 1980 between the United States and the Grand Valley Water Users Association as a prerequisite to constructioll, Clearance was obtained from the Congress to proceed with the construction of pipe laterals also under Stage I.
