<br />Salinity Control Activities <br /> <br /> <br />,7' 5~1J <br />~: '" ".>4"~;~{,, <br />. >4L'"~..'1#J . <br /> <br />Four units were authorized by the Colo- <br />rado River Basin Salinity Control Act <br />(Public Law 93-320, June 24, 1974), These <br />included the Grand Valley and Paradox <br />Units in Colorado: Las Vegas Wash Unit, <br />Nevada; and Crystal Geyser Unit, Utah, <br /> <br />Construction began on the Grand Valley <br />Unit with award of contracts to build the <br />field station and line with concrete <br />6.8 miles of the Government Highline <br />Canal under Stage I of the Unit An <br />operation and maintenance contract was <br />signed on March 11, 1980 between the <br />United States and the Grand Valley Water <br />Users Association as a prerequisite to <br />constructioll, Clearance was obtained <br />from the Congress to proceed with the <br />construction of pipe laterals also under <br />Stage I. A monitoring plan to measure <br />changes in salinity outflow was placed <br />in operation. <br /> <br />~~ <br />..}.. <br />lI:I <br /> <br /> <br />Insulation and metal wall panels being applied to <br />tt18 Grand Valley Field Station <br /> <br />Long-term well field test pumping began <br />on the Paradox Valley Unit to determine <br />the rate of pumping needed to control <br />the inflow of brine to the Dolores River <br />and to determine corrosion resistant <br />components for the well field and convey- <br />ance systems. Testing of the hydrogen <br />sulphide scrubber system continued. <br /> <br />Work on the Las Vegas Wash Unit con~ <br />sisted of drilling and testing several <br />wells to verify water and salt movement <br />budgets, <br /> <br />The Crystal Geyser Unit has been <br />deferred, <br /> <br /> <br />A Construction and Operating Agreement between <br />the Department of the Interior, and the Grand <br />Valley Waters Users Assn. was signed by Bill <br />Plumnwr, Upper Colorado Regional Director <br />(tar right, seated), and Cecil Harper, presi- <br />dent 01 the Grand Valley Water Users Assn <br />(sealed 2nd from right), on March 11,1980 <br /> <br />9 <br />
