. .

~
..
N

(h) Li1y1ands Canal improvements.

The Li1y1ands canal extends north from the Li1y1ands

reservoir to a diversion box near the upper end of Hamilton

canyon. The diversion box then releases water to the Lilylands

canal South and North laterals. The Lily1ands canal is about 18

miles long and the South and North laterals are about 5.5 miles
and 8.5 miles long respectively. The majority of the canal and

laterals are in need of repair and maintenance. The proposed

improvements include repairs and possible enlargement throughout

the length of the canal and the laterals.

Water rights.

The SMWCD owns conditional water rights on the San Miguel

river of 72,600 acre-feet of 12-09-1946 appropriation date for

Saltado reservoir and 9200 acre-feet of 11-17-1950 appropriation

date for Naturita reservoir.

A preliminary evaluation of these water rights indicates that

they may make about 31,700 acre-feet of new water available for

the proposed project. However, due to structural restrictions, as

presently proposed, only about 20,800 acre-feet of water will be
available on the average for project purposes.

A preliminary estimate of the cost of the project is

$15,000,000. This cost includes detailed feasibility studies for

-6-
