production) and light-trap (razorback sucker production) collections-
(a) 1994 Green River, Desolation Canyon seine collections (UDWR); counts,
measures, cataloging, and report completed under FY 96 funds. 470 samples
received and processed.
(b) 1995 Green River light-trap collections, all but cataloging and dBase file
submission to Recovery Program database repository (UDWR), 69 samples
expected, 77 received and processed,
(c) 1995 Green River drift-net collections, all but cataloging and dBase file
submission to Recovery Program database repository (UDWR), 198 samples
expected" 216 received and processed,
(d) 1996 Green River drift-net collections, all but cataloging and dBase file
submission to Recovery Program database repository (UDWR), 198 samples
expected, 195 received and processed.

Unless otherwise specified by the source or responsible agency, processing of
identified collections included total counts and frequencies by developmental state
and total length (usually in 5 or 10-mm intervals) for each species, individual
lengths for endangered species and chubs (Gila species), and dorsal and anal fin
ray counts for metalarval and older chubs, Although many chub, especially
metalarvae and juveniles can be identified with reasonable confidence to species
and even earlier larvae ofbonytail based on myomere counts, detailed diagnosis
of individual specimens is time-consuming and probable humpback chub and
other questionable specimens may need DNA verification, For these reasons and
because systematic questions were still being addressed, source or responsible
agencies had asked us over a decade ago to treat all as one taxon until further
taxonomic resolution is needed (perhaps a change in this policy is long overdue),

Data reports detailing collection contents and summarizing results, including a
brief introductory swnmary, were prepared for each set of collections and
submitted with corresponding dBase computer files to the collecting or
responsible agency, On behalf of the source or responsible agency, copies of the
dBase files were also forwarded, with copies of the introductory swnmaries ,from
corresponding reports, to the Recovery Program database repository maintained
by US Fish and Wildlife Service in Grand Junction, After processing, specimens
were cataloged and stored as part of the LFL Collection, Again, exceptions to the
above were the Flaming Gorge-Green River drift-net and light-trap data which
have been incorporated in LFL reports for Projects 32 and 34 respectively; also as
noted above, specimens from those collections have not yet been cataloged as part
, of the LFL Collection,

\

Excluding 1995 and 1996 Green River drift-net collections, we processed and
reported on 276,005 fish in 2,478 collections (63,962 fish in 1,425 collections
scheduled for FY 97 and 212,043 fish in 1,053 collections completed from work
begun and carried over from FY 96. Among these fish were 1,772 Colorado
squawfish and 11 razorback sucker, including tentatively identified specimens.

:3
