Project Summary: Larval fish identification and curation of small-fish collections is part
of an ongoing cooperative agreement signed in 1990 between the U ,S, Bureau of
Reclamation and Colorado State University, The agreement established a means for
directly funding Larval Fish Laboratory services and research for the Colorado River
Recovery Program at a 15% indirect cost rate, A total of 1,348 seine, drift-net, and light-
trap collections were identified, processed, and cataloged in FY 97 under this portion of
the agreement; another 1,053 collections begun in FY 96 were completcd with funds
carried over from FY 96, In addition to other curatorial activities, 3,300 species-lots of
backlog (pre-l 994) collections were cataloged, relabeled, and reorganized for easy
access.

IV. Study Schedule: I 990-until Larval Fish Laboratory (LFL) services are no longer needed
by the Colorado River Recovery Program,

V, Relationship to RIPRAP: General Recovery Program Support Action Plan V- "Monitor
populations and habitat and conduct research to support recovery actions, research,
monitoring, and data management", More specifically, the collection curation portion of
these services relate to task V,A2-"Conduct interagency data management program to
compile, manage, and maintain all research and monitoring data collected by the
Recovery Program," (preserved specimens are the ultimate natural history database,)
Please see Section VII, Recommendations regarding a more directly pertinent task that
had been approved by the Biology Committee at its February 1996 meeting but has not
yet been incorporated in RIPRAP,

VI. Accomplislunents ofFY 97 Tasks and Deliverables, Discussion ofInitial Findings and
Shortcomings:

The FY 97 goals and objectives of this ongoing project have been met except for the
cataloging of Green River drift-net and light-trap collections and transfer of associated

1
